GenTIC’s director, Milagros Sáinz, participated yesterday in the seminar ‘Disconnecting Inequalities’ organised by the Ferrer i Guàrdia Foundation in Barcelona. The event focused on deepening the understanding of social gaps and inequalities in the context of digitalisation and was aimed at professionals, researchers, journalists, public sector representatives and citizens.
Milagros Sáinz was one of the invited experts at the round table on digital rights and gender. She was joined by Núria Vergés Bosch, Professor of Sociology at the University of Barcelona and founder of Fembloc, and Naiara Bellio López, journalist and researcher at AlgorithmWatch. During the debate, the speakers reflected on how to address the digital gender gap from an intersectional perspective and shared their experiences on the main challenges in ensuring the digital rights of children, young people and adolescents.
The seminar provided a space to exchange ideas on the social impact of technology and how to promote its use to reduce inequalities and guarantee the rights of the most vulnerable. In addition to roundtable discussions on the challenges of digitalisation, the latest research on digital rights and social inclusion promoted by the Ferrer i Guàrdia Foundation was presented.
