GenTIC senior researcher Rachel Palmén has been appointed to a new Expert Panel on Gender Equality in Scientific Organisations established by the International Science Council (ISC), the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) and the Standing Committee for Gender Equality in Science (SCGES) to identify the structural and cultural barriers and highlight effective practices to promote gender equality in scientific leadership.
Rachel Palmén joins 13 other diverse experts from around the world who have been selected for their expertise in gender studies, science policy and institutional governance, as well as their strong commitment to advancing gender equality and women’s participation in science. The new Expert Panel members will work with the Advancing Gender Equality in Scientific Organizations project to provide strategic guidance and independent monitoring of results to enhance gender equity and promote women’s leadership in science academies, medical and engineering academies, Royal Societies and international disciplinary science unions, science councils and associations worldwide.
With a broad background on gender equality and science – specifically looking at the implementation of inclusive gender equality plans and policies from an intersectional perspective – Rachel Palmén has worked on various European Commission funded projects. She is currently the coordinator of INSPIRE: The European Centre of Excellence on Inclusive Gender Equality in Research and Innovation, a Horizon Europe project with a budget of five million euros over four years, involving 14 partners in Europe and Latin America.
