9.30-11.20. Presentation of the main results of the research project ‘The gender gap in science, technology, computer science and language studies: expectations and motivations of secondary school students and teachers’, funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation (National Plan 2011). FEM2011-24117.
The seminar will be held in English by Milagros Sáinz (principal investigator of the project) and will have the following structure:

9.30-10.15: Study 1. Academic motivations and the influence of one’s own expectations and those of teachers in various subjects with a gender perspective.

10.15-11.00. Study 2. Perception of teachers regarding differences in competences between boys and girls in secondary school.

11.00-11.20. Questions and discussion

 

Round table

11.30-13.30. Round table. What are we doing to promote vocations contrary to gender roles and stereotypes among young people? Chair: Milagros Sáinz.
The round table will be conducted in Spanish and will have the following interventions:

11.30-12.00: Impact of the Girls’ Day 2013 and 2014 on the island of Tenerife within the framework of the initiatives carried out by the Equality Unit of the University of La Laguna. Sara García Cuesta. Deputy Director of the Equality Unit of the University of La Laguna.

12.00-12.30: Proposal of initiatives to attract girls and boys carried out by the UOC. Sergi Fàbregues. Equality Unit Coordinator of the UOC.

12.30-13.00. Initiatives to make the ICT studies of the UOC attractive to girls. Daniel Riera Terrén. Professor of Computer Studies at the UOC.

13.00-13.30. Question Time and Discussion.
