The Online Workshop on “Gender and Data Science in Sports and Health” took place on 26-27 October 2021 to address the study from a gender perspective of the bi-directional relationship between health and well-being through sports activity, as well as the integration of a gender approach in the application of data science to the sports and health sectors. The event was organized as one of the dissemination activities of the GENDASH network, financed by the High Council of Sports (CSD) of the Spanish Ministry of Culture and Sport (Ref. 02/UPR/21), and was coordinated by three research groups at Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC): GenTIC and ICSO from the IN3, and FoodLab from the UOC Faculty of Health Sciences.
The two-days workshop gathered 17 communications from experts, practitioners and researchers from different disciplines who presented their research activities on topics such as best practices to address inequalities in women and men’s participation in sports and physical activity, the gender gap that persists in Sports Sciences studies, consideration related to nutrition and sports, the integration of the gender perspective in research on health and quality of life, or the application of data science to the sports and health sectors (program).
The following video offers a summary of the event and includes interviews with some of the participating speakers and collaborations of the GENDASH network: María Martín (director of the Psychosocial Research in Sports Group and INEF professor at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid), Nuria Giménez Blasi (professor at the Universidad Católica de Ávila and professor of the Master’s Degree in Nutrition in Physical Activity and Sport at the UOC), Jordi Falgueras (director of the Degree in Sciences and Technologies applied to Sport and Fitness (CFET) at EUNCET Business School), Armando Nieto (president of Divina Seguros), David Arroyo Menéndez (pre-doctoral researcher at the Rey Juan Carlos University), Laura Esquius de la Zarza (professor of Health Sciences Studies at the UOC and director of the Master in Master’s Degree in Nutrition in Physical Activity and Sport at the UOC) and Carolina Cárcamo (professor at the Universidad Nacional Abierta y a Distancia-UNAD, Colombia).
