The UOC is collaborating with the initiative 11 of February, a campaign aimed to eliminate the gender gap that currently exists in the scientific field by disseminating female roles in science and engineering, making visible the work of women scientists, and promoting practices that favour gender equality in STEM careers.

On the occasion of the International Day of Woman and Girls in Science 2018, the UOC is teaming up with Col·legi Sagrada Família-Horta to run a family-oriented event on the 3rd of February intended to raise awareness of girls’ opportunities in scientific research and provoking interest in STEM fields. Various female researchers from the UOC will show their inventions to children, teenagers and their families, and will explain what it means to be a researcher and a woman.

Gender and ICT is taking part in the event with a workshop oriented to reflect on the pervasive stereotypes around scientific studies and occupations, and what is their relationship with gender roles. The activity is based in GenTIC’s research on the influences of gender roles and stereotypes in study choices, and linked to the project ESTEREO, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness (FEM2014-55096-R).
