Milagros Sáinz, director of GenTIC and principal investigator of the HORIGESTEM project, participated in an event organised by Code Club Catalunya and the Colectic cooperative at the Canòdrom in Barcelona on April 24th to mark International Girls in ICT Day 2025. During the event, Milagros Sáinz was joined by Ana Lucia Silva Córdoba, web developer, trainer at Factoría F5 and co-founder of the FemCoders Club, and Mar Coscojuela Pérez, video game designer and member of FemDevs, in a roundtable discussion on how to overcome the social and gender barriers that keep girls away from technology.

The debate, moderated by Martina Mayrhofer, ICT consultant and system administrator at Colectic, focused on the role of technology in the digital society and highlighted initiatives to reduce inequalities from a feminist and inclusive perspective. At the same time, a Scratch programming workshop was held for children aged 8 to 13, where they learned to create interactive stories, games and animations.

This event is part of the Code Club project, an international network of coding clubs led by the Raspberry Pi Foundation worldwide and by Colectic in Catalonia. The project offers free activities in libraries, community centres and social organisations to teach young people the basics of programming in an engaging and stimulating way.
