The Spanish Institute for Women and for Equal Opportunities and the University of Santiago de Compostela organized the Innovatia 8.3 Congress on October 8, which focused on the role of women scientists and entrepreneurs to provide solutions to the Covid crisis.

 

The director of GenTIC, Milagros Sáinz, participated as an invited speaker in the round table “Covid crisis and the need for a feminist economy”, together with Anna Pérez-Quintana (director of the Equality Unit of the University of Vic – Universtitat Central de Catalunya) and Cristina Aranda (co-founder of Mujeres Tech). In her intervention, Milagros Sáinz tackled the educational challenges to overcome stereotypes and gender roles in academic and career choices and pointed at the need to strengthen the value and social prestige of care, an area that is highly feminized and is not usually perceived as associated to the technological fields by the young people.

 

During the event, the awards of the III Edition of the Innovatia 8.3 Contest were presented to distinguish and economically reward innovative companies led by women and linked to the university and technological sector.
