A project of GenTIC has been selected by the Catalan Agency for Health Quality and Assessment (AQuAS) of the Department of Health of the Generalitat de Catalunya as one of the 15 urgent priority proposals for research in data analytics on the incidence of SARS-CoV-2 and Covid-19. The project is coordinated by Lidia Arroyo as principal investigator and will be carried out in collaboration with the Barcelona Open Data Initiative with the aim of analysing the impact that gender and occupational segregation have on the prevalence of the coronavirus.
The Data Analytics Program for Health Research and Innovation (PADRIS), led by AQuAS, published an urgent call for proposals addressed to research centres and universities in Catalonia to analyse and explore data and build predictive models using the available information from the health system. The GenTIC project has been chosen among 61 proposals. Out of the 15 selected initiatives that received the highest scores, it is one of the three projects that will address the pandemic from the field of social sciences.
GenTIC will carry out a study to analyse and present data from the Catalan Health System with a gender intersectional perspective, considering the incidence of SARS-CoV-2 and Covid-19 in relation to gender and other variables. The proposal also includes the creation of an accessible open data portal by the Barcelona Open Data Initiative, an online repository that will collect and share in open access available data from this study and other initiatives and projects on Covid-19 and its social consequences.
The results of this project will contribute to improving knowledge about the impact of the coronavirus considering existing social inequalities as well as guiding the design and evaluation of public policies that address the needs of the entire population.
