The project “Relief Maps: Let’s make inequalities visible” has been recognised with the ‘Ramon Molinas Foundation’s Award for the best social impact project’ in the #SpinUOC event 2018. “Relief Maps” is a methodological tool created by postdoctoral researcher Maria Rodó de Zárate to study and visualize social inequalities from an intersectional, geographical and emotional approach. It is both a tool to collect data and an analytical methodology, as well as a way to conceptualize interseccionality.

The digital version of “Relief Maps”, which is currently being developed by Maria Rodó de Zárate in collaboration with the UOC, facilitates the gathering, management and visualization of qualitative data on situations of discrimination and discomfort/welfare in relation to the intersection of different forms of inequality linked to gender, sexuality, age, social class and ethnicity, among other identities. Thus, it shows the interrelation of social oppression, on the one hand, and social privileges, on the other, by allowing participants to express their personal experiences in places that they consider relevant to their daily lives.

#SpinUOC is the annual knowledge transfer and entrepreneurship meeting between the UOC and its social and business environment. Organised within the framework of Hubbik, it is a platform that links entrepreneurship and open innovation to the UOC’s fields of knowledge. This year’s edition of #SpinUOC was held in the old factory of Estrella Damm in Barcelona. Eight projects were selected to present its technological solutions, and each promoter gave a 5-minute presentation in a creative format.
