Natalia Garrido has participated in the XVIII International Congress of Researchers in Social and Cooperative Economy, held on 17-18 September 2020 in the Tecnocampus of Mataró-Maresme (Universitat Pompeu Fabra) on the issue “The Social Economy: a tool for promoting sustainable development and reducing inequalities”.
In her communication, Natalia Garrido presented a paper based on her doctoral research which analyzes the organizational ecosystem of the social and solidarity economy in Barcelona. Specifically, the paper analyzes survey data regarding the economic sustainability, legal forms (association, cooperative, foundation, etc.), type of activity carried out, and main values created by the organizations. On the other hand, Natalia Garrido explores the networks in which these organizations participate.
The results show that the main values created by these organizations are aimed at developing the local economy, socially integrating excluded people, and democratizing civic participation. In this way, Natalia Garrido’s conclusions highlight that the social and solidarity economy in Barcelona fosters sustainable development and actively collaborates in reducing social inequalities.
