Rachel Palmén, senior researcher at GenTIC, participated in the UOC Research Showcase 2019 that took place in Barcelona on 5 November and offered an overview of the aims and social impact of the H2020 project EFFORTi. The presentation was included in parallel session 3 on Social transformation and open knowledge, moderated by the UOC Open Knowledge Project Director, Nadja Gmelch.

In her communication, Rachel Palmén highlighted 3 of the 19 case studies analysed in the EFFORTi project and how these initiatives succeeded in integrating the gender dimension to improve gender equality at R&I institutions. The session also included presentations of ongoing projects in the fields of ICT and Open Science by members of other research groups from the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3) such as WINE, SOM RESEARCH LAB and KISON, as well as KIMO (UOC Faculty of Information and Communication Sciences).

The UOC Research Showcase is an internal event where UOC members can get to know the R&I activity developed at the University and reflect on how it can contribute to social transformation and make progress towards fairer, more sustainable societies. The theme for this year’s event was the UN’s 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
